Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Midwest Vision Partners. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a critical role in the care of patients in a clinic setting, providing exceptional patient experience and supporting our clinical operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Interaction: Interact with patients to accurately gather information and enter it into our electronic medical records system.
  • Communication: Proactively engage patients in communicating what to expect with the visit and continues to communicate delays or any other changes with the patient.
  • Documentation: Initiates and performs documentation of the patient's chief complaint, present illness, and captures past medical history.
  • Testing and Procedures: Conducts tests and measures eye muscle function, pupil size, and reactivity. Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
  • Assistance with Minor Surgery: Assists with minor surgery procedures, intraocular injections and laser treatments, in an exam room or treatment room, including preparing patients for sterile procedures.
  • Patient Education: Educates patients regarding the administration of medications, and pre and post-operative instructions, as directed by physicians.
  • Confidentiality: Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, completing diagnostic and procedure coding, and keeping patient information confidential, following all HIPAA requirements.
  • Problem-Solving: Utilizes effective problem-solving skills to respectfully and efficiently de-escalate any dissatisfied patients.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrate basic knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms & ocular medications. Stay current with the latest technologies and medications and be able to answer general patient questions.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • License and Certification: Valid driver's license and ability to drive a motor vehicle.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time and lift up to 50lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Experience: Experience with electronic medical records systems.
  • Medical Terminology: Knowledge of medical terminology.
