ROLE SUMMARY

The Counselor I plays a crucial role in delivering individual therapy, facilitating group sessions, and providing crisis intervention as part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team. This position focuses on substance use counseling within the Foster Youth Substance Use Disorder (FYSUD) initiative. The Counselor will engage with foster youth and their guardians, employing evidence-based practices tailored to their unique needs.

The responsibilities include conducting assessment screenings to determine the treatment requirements and developing a personalized care plan. Collaboration with guardians and other supportive entities is essential to ensure the safety and engagement of youth in the treatment process. Regular supervision sessions with a designated supervisor and consultations with team members are integral to this role. Services may be provided at the outpatient facility or through contracted field-based locations, depending on individual circumstances.

SALARY RANGE:

$29.50 per hour, based on experience

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

GENERAL DUTIES:

  1. Provide crisis intervention as necessary.
  2. Participate in weekly individual and group supervision sessions.
  3. Engage in ongoing training and professional development workshops.
  4. Attend all mandatory staff meetings.
  5. Maintain effective communication with colleagues regarding client behavior and progress.
  6. Exhibit professionalism in dress, language, and conduct.
  7. Demonstrate understanding and support of the agency's philosophy and objectives.
  8. Adhere to professional ethics, including confidentiality and appropriate boundaries.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director or Administration.

ALCOHOL AND DRUG PROGRAMS:

  1. Complete and review ASAM assessments in accordance with program policies.
  2. Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the case manager and multidisciplinary team.
  3. Participate in initial and ongoing case conferences as required.
  4. Document comprehensive progress notes in accordance with regulatory standards.
  5. Facilitate educational groups using approved curricula.
  6. Conduct regular one-on-one sessions with clients, ensuring weekly contact.
  7. Review and provide feedback on client therapeutic writing assignments.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Counselor I

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Enrollment in an accredited Addictions Studies Program with a minimum of 90 hours of approved instruction.
  • Registration with a recognized state-level certification body (e.g., CADTP, CAADE, CCAPP).
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a behavioral healthcare environment.
