Job Summary

The City of Takoma Park is seeking a highly skilled Crime Analyst to join our team. As a Crime Analyst, you will play a critical role in supporting the City's public safety efforts by analyzing crime data, identifying trends, and providing actionable insights to inform policing strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Crime Data Analysis: Review, categorize, and evaluate crime reports to identify suspect and crime trend information.
  • Intelligence Gathering: Perform standard searches and analyze suspect and MO correlation from data obtained.
  • Trend Identification: Utilize data and information gathered to identify, track, or forecast possible crime trends or problem areas.
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS): Collect, analyze, and interpret data and statistics from various sources, including GIS.
  • Reporting and Visualization: Create daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual crime report summaries to distribute to Council, Department Staff, the State of Maryland, and resident advisory groups.
  • Community Engagement: Provide residents and police staff with various criminal and social issue information.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Facilitate the exchange of crime and case information to law enforcement personnel, both inside and outside of Takoma Park.
  • Strategic Planning: Plan, oversee, and carry out administrative and strategic analysis of geographic and social information to be used by police administration for planning.
  • Operational Improvement: Use results of data collection and analysis to evaluate and recommend improvements in operations.
  • Reporting and Compliance: Compile monthly UCR reporting requirements and complete and submit data in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Certifications: Knowledge of and experience in Microsoft Office, Adobe Professional, and Regional Crime databases; Certified Law Enforcement Analyst; Certified Crime and Intelligence Analyst.
