The Arc Prince George's County is dedicated to empowering over 600 individuals with disabilities through diverse programs and services. Our focus is on community living, personal and family support, employment services, and day programs, all aimed at fostering inclusion and community engagement.

Role Summary:

The Arc is in search of a Life & Community Support Specialist who will provide a range of individualized support services, emphasizing personal choice for individuals with developmental disabilities. Responsibilities include advocating for individuals, assisting them in expressing their preferences, and promoting the development of daily living skills while ensuring their health, safety, and community integration.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Advocacy: Support individuals in articulating their choices, aspirations, and rights.
  • Communication: Engage actively with individuals using their preferred communication methods, collaborating with their support networks.
  • Relationship Building: Facilitate opportunities for individuals to form friendships and connections in an inclusive environment.

Daily Activities:

Assist individuals in achieving their desired lifestyles and enhancing their independence through:

  • Participating in the person-centered planning process.
  • Transporting and supervising individuals during daily activities and community experiences.
  • Completing necessary documentation and follow-up reports.

Essential Functions:

Preparation for Change:

  • Collaborate with individuals to plan for upcoming changes.
  • Introduce individuals to activities aligned with their interests.
  • Teach necessary skills for success in both facility and community settings.

Community Integration:

  • Assist individuals in identifying and planning community experiences that suit their needs.
  • Implement person-centered plans to support community involvement.
  • Accompany individuals to community activities, ensuring their engagement and safety.

Personal Care:

  • Support individuals in daily living activities.
  • Monitor individuals closely to ensure their well-being.
  • Respond to health and safety concerns promptly.

Documentation and Communication:

  • Maintain accurate records of participation and behavior program implementation.
  • Engage in regular staff meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
