Job Title: Cardiac Care Telemetry Monitor Technician

Job Summary:

Under the direction of a licensed nurse, the Cardiac Care Telemetry Monitor Technician monitors arrhythmia status of telemetry patients. This role requires the safe and effective operation of the monitoring console, including keeping paper loaders full, cleaning telemetry systems, and reporting any problems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs basic routine/specialized skills under the supervision of a Registered Nurse as identified by skills and policies.
  • Explains process to patient, and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination. Responds to patient's concerns and questions.
  • Demonstrates appropriate assessment skills prior to performing the ultrasound procedure and notifies the Radiologist, when appropriate.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs cardiac monitoring procedures.
  • Prepares skin for monitor electrodes.
  • Applies electrodes in I, II, III, VI, MCLI.
  • Interprets cardiac rhythms and arrhythmias. Identifies and reports routine telemetry observations and life-threatening or potentially serious arrhythmias requiring immediate attention to the RN.
  • Maintains concentration on observations of the central monitors by restricting personal matters to break/meal time.
  • Enters and removes patient's name during admission and discharge from the monitor.

Requirements:

  • Certification for Dysrhythmia Interpretation from an approved school program or evidence of completion of a hospital-based Dysrrhythmia Course in conjunction with a minimum of one year acute care setting experience as a monitor technician.
  • Basic Life Support – Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP) certification.
  • Entry-level position; prior work experience in the monitor tech role or as a nursing assistant in an acute, hospital environment is preferred.

  • Bilingual: Spanish preferred.

Problem Solving/Analytical Skills & Abilities:

  • Technical skills required for this role include the ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and arrhythmias, identify and report routine telemetry observations and life-threatening or potentially serious arrhythmias, and maintain concentration on observations of the central monitors.

Work Environment:

This role is based in a hospital setting and requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
