Key Responsibilities
  • Student Supervision
    • Supervise students outside of classroom instructional periods, ensuring their safety and well-being.
    • Assist with standardized test administration, preparing and proctoring students, classrooms, and related materials.
    • Substitute as classroom teacher during emergency teacher absences.
  • Student Activities
    • Organize and coordinate classroom, grade-level, and school-wide activities and events, ensuring materials, equipment, and logistics are in place.
    • Develop work plans, recommend solutions, and coordinate detailed projects to effectively manage workflow.
  • Instructional Support
    • Provide direct instructional support to students, working with individual, small, and large groups as requested by the classroom teacher.
    • Counsel students to strengthen study skills and self-discipline, meeting their academic responsibilities.
    • Consult with teachers and parents to provide input on student needs.
  • Classroom Preparation/Support
    • Prepare and create instructional materials, performing various functions such as photocopying, laminating, assembling, and creating workbooks, calendars, signs, forms, and notices.
Requirements
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • High School Diploma
    • Minimum of 3 years of related experience
    • Valid Driver's License
    • Ability to effectively manage and supervise large numbers of students and monitor their safety
    • Knowledge and understanding of child development and behavior
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Good organizational skills
    • Flexibility to adapt to change and meet teacher, grade-level, and program needs
    • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience with direct instruction or direct instructional support in a K-12 classroom
    • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction in K-12 school education
    • Experience working with children
    • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture
Working Conditions
  • Work is conducted in a classroom environment, but the purpose of the work may also require work to be conducted in non-standard classrooms
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday, but evening and weekend hours may be required to meet goals and objectives
