The Office of Innovation & Technology (OIT) serves as the central IT authority for the City of Philadelphia, led by the Chief Information Officer (CIO).

OIT is responsible for overseeing all significant information and communication technology initiatives, enhancing the effectiveness of the city's IT infrastructure to meet the needs of businesses, residents, and visitors.


Key Responsibilities:

As part of the Office of Innovation & Technology (OIT), the Infrastructure Solutions Engineer will play a vital role in supporting the operations of the Philadelphia Fire Department.

We seek a skilled and enthusiastic team member who embraces challenges and is committed to making a positive impact in Public Safety and Technology within one of the largest cities in the United States, all while enjoying a flexible work schedule and competitive benefits.


The Infrastructure Solutions Engineer will manage critical cross-platform technologies, including:

  • Data storage and backup disaster recovery
  • Active directory administration
  • Network security
  • SAN administration
  • Architectural planning and design
  • Server management and engineering

This position is essential to the IT infrastructure of the Philadelphia Fire Department, requiring a solid technical foundation and consistent reliability.

Success in this role demands professional skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.


Essential Competencies and Skills:

  • Ensuring optimal systems and infrastructure availability.
  • Providing sound recommendations for service enhancements.
  • Collaborating with peers to deliver high-quality results in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Managing endpoints (Microsoft Intune).
  • Developing and deploying images.
  • Expertise in virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Administering virtual environments, including creation, migration, and maintenance.
  • Conducting Level 3 systems troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Managing storage and planning for capacity.
  • Overseeing backup solutions.
  • Administering and monitoring servers.
  • Planning and executing software and firmware upgrades.
  • Providing primary support for infrastructure systems.
  • Managing application upgrades, deployments, and migrations.
  • Addressing security concerns and infrastructure requirements.
  • Implementing and maintaining Active Directory (GPO).

Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or higher in computer science or a related field is preferred.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in solution engineering, system upgrades, patch management, and enterprise backup and recovery.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Decision-making capabilities.
  • Knowledge of information and network security.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Experience in Active Directory management.

Additional Skills:
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard security protocols: SSL, TLS, IPsec, HTTPS, SFTP, Kerberos, etc.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations.

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000, with the starting salary determined based on experience and qualifications.

Work Environment:
This position requires in-person attendance.
