Job Summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist to serve as a Group Therapy Coordinator for our inpatient psychiatric unit. This is a unique opportunity to work with a talented team of professionals and make a meaningful impact on the lives of our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and coordination of group therapy programs on the inpatient unit, ensuring a cohesive and effective treatment plan.
  • Develop and maintain group therapy schedules, monitoring attendance and participation, and overseeing the supervision of group therapists.
  • Collaborate with unit leadership to create a group program that integrates psycho-education, social interaction, activities, and community-making groups, incorporating leadership roles for all clinical disciplines.
  • Develop and introduce evidence-based group programs that reflect the needs of our patients, innovating and adapting to emerging clinical care issues.
  • Provide clinical supervision and training to hospital staff in effective group practice and facilitation, including supervision of nursing staff, student visitors, volunteers, and clinical interns.
  • Attend clinical team meetings to inform team members about patient group participation and provide consultation to clinical teams and other units as needed.
  • Monitor group attendance and leadership assignments, reviewing staff documentation to ensure compliance with hospital procedures.
  • Follow established group therapy protocols and maintain the unit's Group Resources Manual, detailing group descriptions, goals, methods, and resources.
  • Develop and maintain the unit's Sensory Room and sensory programming, as well as individual occupational therapy evaluations and interventions as requested by psychiatry.
  • Maintain contact with other clinical staff and unit leadership through participation in rounds, staff meetings, multi-disciplinary meetings, treatment planning meetings, and other meetings as necessary.
  • Oversee research and program development initiatives to evaluate group efficacy and clinical leadership, conducting semi-annual focus groups and feedback sessions with patients to determine areas for improvement.
  • Reports to identified program lead for supervision and performance review, attending Group Psychology and Group Psychotherapy Clinical Service Steering Committee meetings as necessary.
  • Recommends clinical staff to participate in the Excellence in Group Training Program, managing a budget to provide materials for group program needs.
Requirements
  • Master's degree or higher from an accredited Occupational Therapy training program.
  • Licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the State where the program is located.
  • Previous group and individual therapy experience preferred.
  • Candidates should be organized, timely, and possess good interpersonal skills to effectively communicate within a multi-disciplined team.
  • Ability to set and maintain appropriate boundaries.
  • Experience with empirically supported/validated group therapy skills (i.e. CBT, ACT, MI, DBT) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with hospital/partial-hospital or community-based treatment programs.
  • Active interest in clinical care issues related to inpatient psychiatric treatment.
