Controller - Financial Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our team at the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah. The successful candidate will play a vital role in directing the principles, practices, and procedures of the accounting department, overseeing day-to-day accounting activities, and participating in leadership and training of the team.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed accounting, statistical, and narrative financial statements or reports requiring analysis and interpretation.
- Review and analyze grants, contracts, and proposals for fiscal soundness and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles and Tribal policy.
- Collect data on direct, indirect, and overhead costs of operation and assist with preparing Indirect Cost Proposal data.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of new or revised accounting systems, procedures, and records.
- Prepare month-end close, including reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, research, and correct discrepancies.
- Review monthly income and trial balance statements and prepare monthly closing entries.
- Perform month-end close of financial records.
- Prepare monthly drawdowns report for grant awards for CFO approval.
- Prepare documents with proper G/L numbers for Accounts Receivable entry of payments.
- Daily review of acceptable costs in accordance with Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah policies and procedures and budget availability.
- Review reconciled monthly financial statements and reconcile expenditures to grant draws.
- Prepare financial reports for grantors as required per award terms and Tribal Government as requested.
- Record new awards, read contracts, establish due dates for financial reporting to grantors.
- Maintain all award files, including modifications, budgets, draws, correspondence, financial reports, etc.
- Work with the CFO and department managers regarding missing program reports or other documents.
- Review awards that are closing two months prior to expiration date to ensure timely spending of awards.
- Prepare annual Audit work papers for each program and related audit schedules.
- Maintain neat and accurate filing systems for all accounting records.
- Work with the accounting team to establish written standard operating procedures.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all Finance Department items.
- Perform other related duties as deemed necessary.
- Must be insurable through the Tribe's vehicle insurance.
- Must pass a criminal and fingerprint background check according to P.L. 101-630 standards.
- Must be able to pass an alcohol/drug screening.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
- Three (3) years' experience working in accounting.
- Preferred Two (2) years' experience working in a health care setting.
- Preferred one (1) year experience with working with an Indian Health organization.
