Position Overview

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will provide expert clinical guidance for all facets of patient care within an acute inpatient environment, emphasizing patient and family-centered approaches. You will exhibit clinical proficiency by applying evidence-based methodologies across all stages of the nursing process: assessment, planning, execution, evaluation, and outcomes. Your role will involve integrating knowledge of safety protocols, cost management, and quality enhancement throughout the nursing workflow.

In this role, you will recognize patient, unit, and organizational priorities, seamlessly incorporating them into the nursing process.
Compliance with all organizational policies and procedures is essential, including but not limited to: licensure renewal, mandatory training, employee health assessments, attendance regulations, dress code adherence, patient confidentiality, infection control, and medication administration. You will demonstrate an understanding of regulatory agency standards (TJC, DHEC, CMS) and provide care within the parameters of the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act.


The acute inpatient environment typically necessitates staff to be available for a considerable number of shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.

Key Responsibilities

1. Conducts comprehensive nursing assessments utilizing appropriate standards and tools specific to the patient’s age and condition. Completes necessary documentation and recognizes subtle or significant changes in patient status and responses to interventions.

2. Develops a tailored plan of care in collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and interdisciplinary healthcare team, updating it as necessary based on the patient's evolving condition.

3. Implements direct care aligned with the established nursing plan, performing tasks according to organizational policies and RN scope of practice.

4. Monitors the quality of care consistently, ensuring patient safety and adherence to care standards.

5. Engages in patient and family education, identifying learning needs and employing effective teaching strategies.

6. Maintains professional accountability by evaluating personal nursing practice against established standards and pursuing ongoing education to enhance community healthcare.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree in Nursing; BSN preferred.

One year of experience as a registered nurse.

Licensure/Certifications

Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license in South Carolina.

Alternative Qualifications

In lieu of one year of registered nurse experience, successful completion of the Prisma Health Nurse Residency Program or a comparable residency from another institution will be accepted.

In lieu of one year of registered nurse experience, one year of licensed practical nurse (LPN) experience will be accepted.
