ENTRY LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS:


Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, current State license (RN preferred) (LPN acceptable), with a minimum of two years of experience in chemical dependency treatment. Experience with both adults and adolescents is preferred.

  • Ability to remain seated for 1⁄2 to 4 hours during an 8-hour shift.
  • Vision must be corrected to 20/40 in each eye and hearing must be adequate (hearing aids are acceptable).
  • Capable of administering First Aid and CPR.
  • Ability to walk approximately 1 mile within the facility during an 8-hour shift.
  • Must be emotionally and physically equipped to handle stressful situations.
  • If in recovery, must demonstrate two (2) years of continuous abstinence.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Execute all nursing service duties. Adhere to nursing policies and procedures regarding detoxification and other nursing services. Implement physician's orders and protocols as instructed. Engage in Performance Improvement and Infection Control activities as required.


Understand and comply with the general provisions of 42 CFR Part 2, "Confidentiality of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Patient Records," and 45 CFR "Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act." This role has unrestricted access to patient identifying and health information.


KEY FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct and document a thorough and accurate Nursing Assessment within twenty-four (24) hours of patient admission.
  • Evaluate withdrawal severity and respond according to physician's policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Establish and maintain rapport with patients and their families.
  • Monitor vital signs (B/P, Pulse, Respirations) and administer medications as prescribed by the physician.
  • Perform venipuncture on patients safely.
  • Administer oral medications, intramuscular injections, and intravenous medications, including IV fluids.
  • Transcribe physician orders, manage medication orders, and ensure accountability for controlled substances.
  • Conduct routine monitoring and testing, such as blood glucose monitoring, audiometric screening, and EKG.
  • Provide health and medical education to patients and their families as appropriate.
  • Participate in timely and accurate documentation of patient records related to nursing assessments, treatment planning, and patient progress.
  • Engage in Clinical Team Staffing and staff meetings as necessary.
  • Conduct regular performance improvement monitoring and evaluation activities and participate in Task Groups as needed.
  • Adhere to the Board of Nursing Standards of Practice.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive environment, providing health education and counseling to patients and staff.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor and appearance, ensuring clear and articulate communication, and remain alert and responsive to patient needs.
  • Demonstrate regular attendance.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, management, clients, and prospective clients.
  • Maintain a constant state of alertness to perform the job safely.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
