Position Summary

The Breast Ultrasound Technician is responsible for conducting screening and diagnostic ultrasound examinations with exceptional image quality. The technician must adhere closely to physician protocols, ensuring patients are positioned correctly to capture the necessary diagnostic images while operating all breast imaging ultrasound equipment safely. Patient safety during procedures is paramount, and the technician may need to assist patients with mobility challenges. This role involves performing sonographic evaluations as requested by referring physicians, emphasizing excellent service and patient care. Creating a calm atmosphere is essential for patients to follow examination instructions effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately identify anatomical orientation on all required images and ensure proper file identification.
  • Exhibit proficiency in performing all diagnostic ultrasound procedures and operating related equipment.
  • Welcome patients, gather medical history, and input information into the computer system.
  • Conduct scans in accordance with established guidelines and company protocols.
  • Maintain logs and process necessary paperwork for biopsies.
  • Review patient charts and requisitions to ensure correct room setup and identify any specific medical issues.
  • Utilize sterile techniques to prevent contamination.
  • Oversee all clinical aspects of the ultrasound suite, ensuring examination rooms are clean and organized.
  • Review upcoming patient schedules to confirm accuracy of orders and ensure prior images are available.
  • Maintain current CPR certification.
  • Provide coverage as needed for unexpected absences or increased patient schedules.
  • Deliver a positive patient experience by sharing information about procedures and ensuring patients understand follow-up steps.
  • Maintain communication with radiologists, physicians, patients, and their families.
  • Consistently produce diagnostic-quality images without the need for additional acquisitions; perform quality assurance on images and equipment.
  • Pursue continuing education as required to maintain licensure.
  • Keep licensure in good standing.
  • Assist with inventory management and stocking of examination rooms.
  • Help maintain cleanliness in dressing rooms.
  • Support laundry duties as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of an accredited program in ultrasound technology.
  • ARDMS Certification in Breast (American Registry for Diagnostic Sonography).
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist.
  • Proficiency in OB/GYN, Vascular, and general ultrasound.
  • Independent Sonographer with experience in Breast scans.
  • BLS Certification.
