Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Health Technician I to join our team at Placer County. As an Environmental Health Technician I, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with environmental health regulations and providing excellent customer service to the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct field inspections to verify compliance with environmental health regulations and provide information to the public.
  • Receive and process environmental health permits and applications, reviewing them for compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Perform research involving parcel and permit history, as well as review commercial and home occupation business licenses for compliance with environmental health and/or land use standards and regulations.
  • Accept, log, and review commercial and residential plans and associated documents for plan checking, and process, prepare, and issue permits as needed.
  • Prepare correspondence and notifications providing and requesting information to and from customers related to application materials and permits.
  • Receive and log complaints pertaining to environmental health-related issues, and log and maintain various data and records and prepare reports.
  • Respond to environmental health public records requests, and respond by telephone, email, and in person at the front counter to general and specific questions pertaining to environmental health-related issues from the public.
  • Generate and send invoices, process payments, and provide receipts to customers for environmental health permits.
  • Prepare and distribute a variety of informational materials pertaining to environmental health issues, and build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, other County employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
Requirements
  • One (1) year experience in an environmental health setting, emphasizing public contact is desirable.
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by at least twelve (12) semester units of college level courses in chemistry, biology, physics, toxicology, or a related field.
  • May need to possess a valid driver's license as required by the position, and proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in both an indoor office environment with controlled temperature conditions and in the field requiring travel to various locations throughout the County in a variety of outdoor weather conditions.
