As a Medical Support Specialist at Concentra, you will engage in essential medical and testing procedures under the direct supervision of the attending clinician. Your role is pivotal in ensuring that every patient experiences the Concentra standard: exceptional clinical care delivered by a team of welcoming, respectful, and skilled professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:
- Conduct ancillary testing and tasks as directed by the treating clinicians, including but not limited to vaccinations, phlebotomy, pulmonary function tests, audiometric testing, and respirator fit assessments.
- Execute rapid screening tests for conditions such as influenza, strep throat, mononucleosis, and glucose levels.
- Prepare patients for physical examinations by taking vital signs and performing necessary tests.
- Carry out routine medical procedures as instructed by the treating clinician.
- Triage and manage patient dispositions effectively.
- Assist healthcare providers during examinations and treatments.
- Prepare for and support clinicians during surgical setups and injury care.
- Apply dressings, bandages, and splints as per clinician orders.
- Dispense medications and medical devices in compliance with state regulations.
- Conduct drug and alcohol testing as required by DOT and Non-DOT protocols.
- Maintain and operate medical equipment, ensuring proper calibration and record-keeping in line with current policies.
- Engage in quality assurance activities related to equipment and testing processes.
- Manage supplies, maintain cleanliness of rooms and equipment, and ensure exam rooms are stocked.
- Promptly notify supervisors of any equipment malfunctions, supply shortages, or operational issues.
- Oversee patient flow and volume, keeping patients informed of expected wait times.
- Perform clerical tasks related to patient care and accurate record-keeping, ensuring documentation is precise.
- Be cross-trained to handle front office responsibilities, including patient greetings, authorization procurement, and check-in/out processes.
- Answer phone calls as necessary.
- Attend center staff meetings as required.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly facility.
Qualifications:
Education and Credentials:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution or Military Medical Specialist credentials in accordance with state regulations.
Experience:
- Familiarity with occupational medicine requirements is preferred.
- Previous experience in a medical office setting is advantageous.
Skills and Competencies:
- Core competencies include service mentality, attention to detail, urgency, initiative, and adaptability.
- Ability to make informed decisions and solve problems logically.
- Exceptional customer service skills and professionalism in interactions.
- Proficient in handling sensitive information in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
- Willingness to engage in ongoing training and development.
- Effective communication skills with patients, providers, and colleagues.
- Strong computer skills and ability to maintain professional relationships at all levels.
- Must complete orientation and training, demonstrating competency in required medical tasks.
- Obtain necessary certifications for Medical Support Specialists, including Drug Screen Collection and Breath Alcohol Certification.
