Under the direct guidance of the healthcare provider, the individual will be tasked with patient evaluation and care, alongside maintaining accurate documentation.
This role requires foundational knowledge in both specialty and primary care, enabling the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
The individual will be accountable for coordinating care to ensure the delivery of high-quality, compassionate patient services.Responsibilities include overseeing patient management at office locations and serving as a liaison with various organizations and departments.
This role may also involve ordering medical, pharmacy, and office supplies essential for patient care.Compliance with all policies and procedures of Mid Michigan Health, as well as adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations, is mandatory.
The individual will also coordinate and provide training for new employees, students, and temporary staff as necessary.The clinical staff member will deliver patient education, assist with specialty care procedures, manage symptoms, respond to emergencies, monitor compliance and the effects of care management for high-risk patients, and educate patients and families about medications, including their purposes and potential side effects. Coordination and continuity of care with other healthcare providers will also be a key responsibility.
Additionally, general office tasks such as typing, filing, answering phones, and operating office equipment may be required. The specific responsibilities outlined in this job description may vary slightly based on the assigned practice. Your immediate supervisor will clarify your specific duties.Key Responsibilities
(30%) Manage incoming calls, schedule urgent/emergent appointments, and relay test results. Support and direct patients for consultations, testing, and insurance pre-certification.
(30%) Welcome patients and their families, perform routine pre-examination tasks including vital signs, and accurately document objective and subjective data regarding the presenting condition. Maintain accurate patient records through tasks such as orders reconciliation and secure messaging.
(20%) Assist the provider during examinations and procedures.
(20%) Prepare and sanitize the patient area, set up equipment, and ensure cleanliness post-procedure. Dispose of contaminated materials and sterilize medical instruments.
Additional Duties:
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments as required within the scope of practice.
Perform patient care tasks including injections, minor dressing changes, and blood specimen collection.
In certain practices, competency in assisting with procedures such as electrocardiograms (EKG), Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT), Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABI), and Non-stress Tests (NST) may be required.
Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and colleagues. If necessary, travel to satellite clinics.
Demonstrate proficiency in essential office computer functions: MAPS, MCIR Practice Management, Electronic Medical Records, LIS, Emageon, dictation systems, and other relevant programs to assist providers and staff.
Uphold a high level of confidentiality and ensure patient rights are respected in accordance with established procedures and HIPAA regulations.
May perform clerical tasks such as completing insurance forms, correspondence, arranging hospital admissions, answering phones, and updating patient medical records.
Maintain a systematic approach for accurate documentation and coding in medical records as per policy. Participate in annual reviews for quality and completeness as required.
Address the age-specific needs of the patient population served, in accordance with departmental standards and policies, as evidenced by observation, documentation, and peer feedback.

Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists (AMT)
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
OR equivalent Medical Assistant Credential such as Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), etc.
Experience, Training, and Skills:
Excellent interpersonal skills are essential for effective communication with individuals and groups, enabling clear and understandable exchanges of ideas and concepts.
Annual Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training is mandatory according to the Exposure Control Plan.Knowledge of medical office policies, practices, and procedures is typically acquired through three to five years of experience in the healthcare system or a similar environment.
Previous experience in a physician clinic setting is preferred.Physical and Mental Requirements:
Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment, including latex materials or appropriate substitutes as required for the position.
Must be able to move freely throughout the facility with or without an assisted device and perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing capabilities are necessary, with or without assisted devices.Frequent sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods may be required, along with postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials. Compliance with Mid Michigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing requirements is necessary.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, collaborate with others, work independently, maintain regular attendance, and remain alert is essential.
Overall dexterity is required, including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling, with potential repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.Physical Demand Level:
Light. Must be able to occasionally lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently lift 10 lbs., and/or engage in walking, standing, pushing, or pulling arm/leg controls.
