We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Service Writer to join our team at the City of Farmington. As a Service Writer, you will be responsible for coordinating and scheduling routine and emergency repair service for city vehicles, as well as providing exceptional customer service to our clients.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and schedule routine and emergency repair service for city vehicles
- Provide exceptional customer service to clients, including greeting customers, answering phone calls, and responding to requests for service
- Generate work orders, input data into the AS/400 computer system, and finalize work orders upon completion of the job
- Provide administrative diagnostic evaluations, including interpreting customer descriptions of conditions to mechanical language for work orders
- Order parts from local vendors as needed
- Update preventative maintenance schedules for vehicles as needed
- Coordinate all outside vehicle repair work with local vendors
- Respond to requests for service from the field, including emergency breakdowns
- Assist mechanics with research on proper diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of vehicles using manuals, reference materials, etc.
- Provide guidance and direction to the Lead Mechanics in the absence of the Manager, Fleet Maintenance Operations Division
- Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent and specialized training in mechanics, maintenance management, or a closely related field
- Valid New Mexico driver's license (or current state of residency) with an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years
- Knowledge of automotive mechanics, including maintenance and diagnostics
- Knowledge of, or ability to acquire, information on standardized automotive labor repair times
- Ability to type 30 wpm or at a rate sufficient to perform duties of the job
- Data entry experience preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel, and the public
The work environment is primarily indoors, with occasional outdoor work in various weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
