SpaceX operates under the conviction that a future where humanity explores the cosmos is significantly more thrilling than one where we remain Earth-bound. Currently, SpaceX is advancing the technologies necessary to make this vision a reality, with the ultimate aim of establishing human life on Mars.
SENIOR ELECTRICAL DESIGN ENGINEER (STARLINK)
SpaceX is utilizing its expertise in rocket and spacecraft development to launch Starlink, the most sophisticated broadband internet system globally. Starlink boasts the largest satellite constellation and delivers fast, reliable internet to over 3 million users worldwide. We design, construct, test, and manage every component of the system - from thousands of satellites to consumer receivers that enable users to connect within moments of unboxing, alongside the software that integrates everything. We have merely begun to explore Starlink's potential global influence. As we continue to enhance and expand the constellation, we seek top-tier engineers to contribute to our mission.
As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer for Starlink, you will have comprehensive ownership over the hardware that facilitates this connectivity, operating at the crossroads of electrical, mechanical, thermal analysis, software, and antenna engineering. Within our Redmond facility, there are several sub-teams in the broader Starlink hardware engineering group, each focusing on distinct areas. These include high-speed digital communication, network system integration, power systems integration, RF systems, avionics, network computers, power electronics, failure analysis, on-orbit reliability, and testing automation. Your assignment to these teams will be determined during the interview process, considering technical compatibility, expertise, and your preferences. Sub-teams consist of:
- Satellite Payload: Design and implementation of RF systems, high-speed digital communication, and high-density power conversion hardware.
- Satellite Bus and Avionics: Development and testing of space-hardened avionics hardware.
- Gateways: Design, build, and test electronics for the largest network of ground stations, acting as intermediaries between satellites and end-users to ensure seamless data transfer.
- Hardware Test and Factory Automation: Validation and testing from initial concept to full-scale production.
- Failure Analysis: Conduct root cause analysis of systemic production issues to drive design and process improvements.
- On-Orbit Reliability: Monitor and support satellite electronics health while in orbit, leading anomaly investigations and conducting lab experiments to replicate findings.
- Enterprise & Government: Delivering premier solutions for large-scale operations across aviation, maritime, and defense sectors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, develop, and test highly reliable electronics for satellite communication.
- Assess third-party electrical and design integration solutions for Starlink's reliable operation.
- Collaborate with software, mechanical, thermal, and manufacturing teams.
- Lead system trades, requirements capture, component selection, analysis, schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, hardware bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, and testing of complex electrical designs.
- Engage hands-on to support hardware through production, satellite integration, and flight.
- Work closely with engineers from various disciplines to deliver tightly integrated, high-performance hardware.
- Drive continuous improvements to designs by developing tools to analyze data collected in orbit and in the lab.
- Challenge assumptions and strive for straightforward solutions to complex challenges.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in designing circuits, electronic products, or hardware.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.

- 2+ years of experience in aerospace systems.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work extended hours or weekends as needed for mission-critical deadlines.
