Under the direction and supervision of the surgeon, this professional provides expert assistance in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions, helping to achieve optimal results for patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures, utilizing knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and technique.
- Provide intraoperative competency behaviors, including handling of tissue, instrument management, and control of blood loss.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure effective communication and interaction with patients, medical staff, and other associates.
- Anticipate and respond calmly to emergency situations, recognizing surgical hazards and initiating corrective and preventative actions.
- Follow established protocols and procedures to ensure patient safety and satisfaction.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
Requirements:
- Two years of experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist required; experience as a Surgical First Assistant preferred.
- Current certification as a Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA), Surgical Assistant, Certified (SA-C), or equivalent required.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required.
- Current CPR training.
- High school diploma or equivalent; graduate from an accredited surgical technologist program required; bachelor's degree in a related medical science field preferred.
