We are seeking a highly skilled Research Developer/Data Analyst to join our team at the Institute for Defense Analyses in La Jolla, CA.
Job Summary:The successful candidate will provide automation support for research efforts and related data analysis, working closely with our research staff to design and implement software solutions. This role requires strong programming skills, data analysis expertise, and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide consultation to research staff members on high-performance computing resources and good programming practices.
- Advocate and train research staff members on debugging, optimization, and version management.
- Lead select projects through the software development life cycle for research and IT initiatives.
- Develop software for research problems, performing comprehensive unit and system testing.
- Ensure software compliance with security and configuration management policies and procedures.
- Install and maintain open-source software for research needs, troubleshooting and modifying installation procedures as necessary.
- Analyze data flows and applications to identify areas where our HPC resources can be brought to bear.
- Coordinate with the Data Curator to maintain the quality of research datasets, processing, cleaning, and transforming data as needed.
- Contribute to research efforts by applying computer and data science techniques to problems of interest.
- Obtain and maintain certification satisfying DoD M, IAT-2.
Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or related technical field, coupled with six years minimum experience in Information Technology, including at least two years in scripting, programming, and software maintenance. Alternatively, a Master of Science degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Systems, or related technical field, coupled with four years minimum experience in Information Technology, including at least two years in scripting, programming, and software maintenance.
Strong communications and presentation skills, with a willingness to learn about standard industry practices and become an expert in tools related to our research mission. Experience installing open-source software from source code in a Unix environment is required, as well as experience with programming languages such as C/C++, Python, and development tools like GIT, Cmake, SCons, and GNU Autotools.
Experience with SQL and databases, as well as programming languages like Perl, R, Fortran, and CUDA, is a plus. Familiarity with Python data science and machine learning frameworks like Keras, Numpy, Pandas, ScikitLearn, and Tensorflow is also a plus.
Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret security clearance with lifestyle polygraph is required.
