Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Firefighter to join our team at the City of Clovis, CA. As a Firefighter, you will be responsible for responding to emergency calls, providing rescue and medical assistance, and participating in fire prevention and training activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to fire alarms and other emergency calls to protect life and property
  • Render first aid and lifesaving assistance as needed
  • Participate in fire prevention and training activities to maintain a safe and effective response to emergencies
  • Perform firefighting and fire station equipment maintenance to ensure optimal performance
  • Conduct inspections of dwellings, public assemblies, and commercial, industrial, and government buildings to identify potential fire hazards
  • Interpret fire and building codes to ensure compliance and safety
  • Assist in the investigation of fires to determine cause and origin
  • Respond to complaints and requests for information from the public to provide excellent customer service
Requirements
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License and a good driving record
  • Possession of a valid California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-1) Certificate or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Certification or higher
  • Possession of a valid healthcare provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate
  • Possession of valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) or Biddle Physical Agility Test certification
  • Possession of a California State Board of Fire Services Fire Fighter I Certificate (FF-1) or completion of an approved Basic Fire Fighter I Academy
  • Possession of a Hazardous Materials First Responder Operational Level Certificate within twelve (12) months of appointment
  • Possession of a California State Board of Fire Services Fire Fighter II Certificate (FF-2) within twelve (12) months of appointment
  • Possession of a California State Board of Fire Services Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator 1A Certificate within twelve (12) months of appointment
  • Possession of an appropriate California Driver's License for operating firefighting equipment within twelve (12) months of appointment
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of fire fighting experience as a full-time Firefighter in a municipal setting
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and mechanical relationships
  • Knowledge of simple record-keeping methods
  • Knowledge of proper methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in firefighting
  • Knowledge of general principles of fire suppression and prevention
  • Knowledge of appropriate safety precautions and procedures
  • Knowledge of emergency medical care
  • Knowledge of computer operation and use of electronic media
Working Conditions

As a Firefighter, you will be required to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, responding to emergency calls and participating in fire prevention and training activities. You will be exposed to a variety of physical and mental demands, including:

  • Walking, standing, sitting, and climbing to perform various fire fighting/rescue duties
  • Reaching, pushing, pulling, grabbing, and carrying equipment of varying sizes and weights
  • Exertion of a moderate amount of physical effort to stoop, crouch, climb, and lift in performance of assigned duties
  • Exposure to odors, toxic agents, machinery, explosives, dust, noise, and smoke
  • Manual dexterity to use tools and equipment
