Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Conservation Program Director to lead our efforts in the Chicago region. The successful candidate will have a strong background in conservation and community wellbeing, with a proven track record of developing and implementing effective programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development and Implementation: Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve conservation and community wellbeing outcomes in the Chicago region.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage a cross-disciplinary team of social scientists, ecologists, data and spatial analysts, and engagement and environmental specialists.
  • Partnership Development: Develop and maintain partnerships with non-profit partners, community groups, tribal representatives, and government agencies to address environmental justice and equity.
  • Project Management: Manage complex or multiple projects, including budget management and fundraising.
  • Communication and Representation: Serve as a key liaison with partners, funders, and trustees, promoting and communicating the Chicago Region Program to internal and external audiences.
Requirements
  • Advanced Degree: An advanced degree in a relevant field, such as conservation biology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 10 years of experience in conservation and community wellbeing in urban centers, with a strong understanding of the political landscape and conservation realities in Chicago, the Great Lakes, and/or Upper Midwest regions.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven experience in leading and managing interdisciplinary teams, with a strong ability to motivate, cultivate respect, and build capacity.
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrated commitment to integrating biological and social aspects of conservation with advanced technologies for research and decision-making.
