Job Overview

Davis Behavioral Health is looking for a part-time Certified Medical Assistant to join our dedicated medical team in a reverse integrated care environment.

Role Summary

The Medical Assistant will play a crucial role in assisting the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in providing exceptional healthcare services to adults facing Serious Mental Illness (SPMI) and substance use challenges. This position entails performing clinical tasks, managing patient documentation, and ensuring a seamless operational flow. The ideal candidate should possess clinical experience, strong organizational abilities, and a sincere commitment to serving these patient demographics.

Key Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant will be tasked with the following duties:

  • Support the FNP or PA in conducting patient evaluations, including measuring vital signs, gathering medical histories, and recording symptoms.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, ensuring their comfort and clarity regarding the process.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments as directed by the FNP or PA.
  • Conduct basic laboratory tests and collect samples for analysis.
  • Maintain and organize patient records, ensuring precision and confidentiality.
  • Coordinate patient appointments and follow-up care.
  • Provide education to patients regarding health management, medication protocols, and lifestyle changes.
  • Facilitate care coordination between physical health and behavioral health providers.
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and adequately stocked clinical environment.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and assist in developing clinic protocols and procedures.
  • Perform administrative duties, including answering calls, processing insurance documentation, and managing patient flow.

Position Classification

This role is classified as part-time and non-exempt, with a commitment of 20 hours per week.

Compensation Details

The starting wage for this position is:

  • Certified Medical Assistant: $18.75 per hour

Work Schedule

The selected candidate will work the following hours:

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm

Qualifications

Education/Certification

Must hold an active certification as a Medical Assistant in good standing. Candidates currently pursuing certification with relevant experience may also be considered.

Experience

  • Experience in a clinical setting, particularly with SPMI and substance use populations.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.

Skills/Abilities

  • Strong clinical competencies, including vital sign assessment, medication administration, and basic laboratory testing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.
  • Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Ability to educate patients on health management and treatment plans.
  • Preference for candidates familiar with the unique needs of SPMI and substance use populations.

Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not mandatory for this position.
