Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Controls Engineer to join our team at MDS Staffing. As an Electrical Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for coordinating with and assisting Controls Engineers with system and component drawings. This will include planning, creating, revising, and checking of complete Electrical drawing sets for projects with minimal supervision utilizing good CAD standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare electrical wiring diagrams, instrument loop wiring diagrams, electrical equipment location diagrams, process instrumentation diagrams, and panel construction that meet the customer's needs and are within the project budget.
  • Conduct 85% electrical design using AutoCAD Electrical and 15% testing and technician troubleshooting.
  • Revise drawings based on change orders or customer requests.
  • Closely coordinate with Project Managers/Engineers on project details to ensure accurate and timely work.
  • Make oral and graphic presentations of project work at meetings or to customers as needed.
  • Keep the AutoCAD Electrical library up to date.
  • Accurately and timely log project and non-project activities.
  • Review electrical documentation provided by electrical and mechanical equipment vendors for compliance with contract requirements and specifications.
  • Inspect the fabrication of electrical systems, FAT certify, and inspect the installation, modification, testing, and full operation of systems if necessary.
  • Provide technical assistance and resolution when electrical or engineering problems are encountered before, during, and after construction.
  • Assist with quoting potential projects by providing P&ID for the controls required.
  • Review customer specs (solenoids, electrical specs) prior to creating a system for a project.
  • Request wiring tag lists from customers for proper labeling on equipment and project documents.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and constructively suggest improvements.
Requirements
  • AS or BS Degree in Electrical Drafting, Mechatronics/Automation, Electrical Engineering, or a related degree.
  • 2-20 years of electrical engineering or electrical design experience related to the design of process equipment (food/bev, oilseed, chemical, power/energy, etc.).
  • 2 years of Control Panel Design experience.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
  • AutoCAD Electrical 2017 (or newer) proficiency is required.
  • Testing and startup of control panels and related instrumentation.
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to travel 10% of the time.
  • Must excel at multi-tasking and be able to work on multiple projects at one time.
  • Must have experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Must be able to work beyond basic work hours when needed.
  • Must be able to work with tools when needed.
  • Must be able to work within a process plant, including but not limited to climbing stairs, ladders, and working on elevated platforms.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. as well as bend, twist, turn, push, and pull.
  • Ability to hear different noise tones to access operational issues.
