Position: Mechanical Technician – Location: Pasco, WA
Marathon Pipe Line Company is on the lookout for a skilled Mechanical Technician. This role is situated at our Pasco, WA facility and reports directly to the Area Manager. The Mechanical Technician will engage with petroleum products, truck loading, and barge facilities, executing maintenance and reliability tasks while providing essential field support across various MPL processes and departments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintenance, reliability, and operational functions, which include, but are not limited to, the repair and upkeep of valves, pumps, vapor recovery units/combustors, tank apparatus, strainers, meters, truck loading equipment, barge machinery, and butane blending systems. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to diagnose issues, work autonomously as well as collaboratively, and effectively prioritize tasks. All responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with regulations supporting DOT, US Coast Guard, Environmental, Safety, and Regulatory standards. The role may require travel, on-call duties, and overtime as necessary. Candidates must reside within a reasonable distance from the Pasco, WA reporting location and will need to successfully complete a non-CDL DOT driver physical to operate the company vehicle. All employees will receive training at the HAZWOPER 24hr Technician Level, along with First Aid and CPR certifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including but not limited to:
- Vibration monitoring and analysis
- Inspection, installation, and maintenance of major/minor relief valves
- Maintenance, repair, and alignment of mainline, booster, and truck rack pumps
- Lubrication changes
- Installation and repair of stainless steel tubing
- DOT mainline inspections
- Flange bolting and assembly
- Maintenance and repair of valves and actuators
- Management of bi-directional provers
- Hydrotesting of barge hoses
- Coordinate and communicate maintenance activities effectively.
- Respond to equipment failures, alarms, and field callouts, relaying findings to relevant parties.
- Create computerized work requests for maintenance tasks.
- Assist with project work within the area and other MPL/Terminal locations as required.
- Perform tasks safely and with environmental consciousness, adhering to all Environmental, Safety, and Regulatory guidelines.
- Support operations and provide rotational on-call assistance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is mandatory.
- An Associate's degree in a relevant technical field is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems or PLC programming is advantageous.
- Basic computer proficiency is required.
- Prior experience in pipeline operations with a focus on mechanical skills is highly desirable.
- Experience with medium voltage electrical equipment and controls/PLCs is a plus.
- A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are essential.
- Ability to pass a general background check and a Motor Vehicle Background check is necessary.
- Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) for work at the Pasco, WA facility.
