Position Overview:
The proficient Cellular Pathology Specialist plays a vital role in the analysis of human cellular samples. This includes staining, mounting, and scrutinizing cells under a microscope to identify signs of precancerous, malignant, and infectious conditions. The specialist is tasked with executing a range of intricate laboratory tests and procedures for patients across all age groups, adhering to established protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Provide clinical data or microscopic findings to support pathologists in preparing pathology reports.
+ Mount, stain, and examine smears under a microscope to assess specimen quality, recommending acceptance or rejection to the Pathologist.
+ Ensure efficient laboratory operations by following standards for specimen collection, preparation, and laboratory safety.
+ Classify and identify abnormal cell structures, reporting any abnormalities to Pathologists for further investigation.
+ Document findings from medical tests and clinical results into the hospital's information system for patient records.
+ Monitor inventory levels of supplies, equipment, and reagents, placing orders for replacements as necessary.
+ Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's Degree in Science: Biology, Chemistry, or Medical Laboratory Sciences is required.
+ Completion of a Cytotechnology Program is required.
Certifications:
+ Cytotechnologist (CT) certification from a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) is required.
Experience:
+ A minimum of three years of experience in a Clinical Laboratory setting is preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
+ Ability to work independently while being part of a team, with a strong attention to detail.
+ Capacity to deliver quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
+ Engage professionally with staff and patients.
