We are seeking an experienced Senior Cost Estimator to join our team in San Francisco. As a key member of our cost management team, you will provide estimating, benchmarking, and commercial management services on a global technology client's massive data center construction program.
Responsibilities:- Manage key relationships with the client, stakeholders, and other consultants.
- Develop cost plans and project capital estimates through the design phase, delivering updated cost plans at appropriate design milestones.
- Prepare cost reports and estimate packages, and regularly present to stakeholders.
- Provide commercial input to design optioneering and input into value engineering exercises.
- Manage cost checks and carry out valuations on larger projects.
- Complete timely, accurate cost checking and valuation processes.
- Provide estimate and cost planning to include producing and presenting the final cost plan with the client, general contractor, and project team.
- Review contractor and subcontractor pricing and lead negotiations on behalf of the client to drive fair contract prices.
- Maintain margin levels and monthly fee/resource forecasts for all commissions.
- Lead the commercial review of the competitive bid process for major trades.
- Benchmarking integration to ensure accurate data capture.
- Communicate with general contractor and owner project manager to gather status information to prepare a cost estimate update.
- Prepare written comments to the general contractor's submissions, including the executive summary.
- Coordinate all sources of cost information for cost discussions and suppliers direct from NPA, subs, quantities from A/Es.
- Inform and drive engineering priorities based on cost impact.
- Work proactively with minimal supervision to resolve scheduling issues.
- Knowledge management - Ensure that key information and learning generated from each commission is inputted into internal databases and shared.
- Process improvement - Identify and act upon ways to improve internal systems and processes.
- Financial management - Utilize the tools provided to keep track of the ongoing margin levels and monthly fee/resource forecasts for each commission.
- Review and participate with the design services team and general contractor, in the development of the cost estimates.
- Reconcile changes that occur over the planning phase and assist the general contractor to ensure that their data is accurate.
- Quality Control - Ensure compliance with quality standards and participation in ISO audits.
- Line management responsibilities are effectively discharged.
- Business development opportunities with existing and new clients, including cross-selling opportunities, are identified and acted upon.
- Lead proposals for new work or variations for existing projects.
- Demonstrates excellent presentation, verbal, written, and communication skills.
- Ample experience working in a cost management role on large projects throughout the preconstruction phase.
- Understands cost (material prices, labor, productivities) as well as commit profiles, cashflow, LLE dates, and overall project cost.
- Experience preparing Cost Management estimates and reports.
- Experience with advising clients on value management, and value engineering.
- Experience with key aspects of business development.
- Good organization skills, ability to multi-task, and be a team player.
- Proficiency with Microsoft/G-suite of applications.
- Strong analytical skills and, advanced proficiency using spreadsheets.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Drive to be proactive and self-motivated.
- The tenacity and ambition to inject value and create solutions.
- Ability to develop good working relationships with project teams.
- Education/Experience: College or post-graduate degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field with a technical focus or related technical field.
- Experience managing others on a Cost Management team, ensuring they deliver on all accountabilities.
- Demonstrated experience working on large, mission critical construction projects such as Data Centers, High Tech, Manufacturing, industrial or relatable is required.
- Understanding of unit costs and factors which affect construction cost.
- Experience working on Request for Proposal Responses (RFP's).
- Excellent communicator and thrives in a client-facing role.
- MEP experience is beneficial; Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing estimating experience within the construction industry.
Salary Range: $105K-$180 per year. Ranges are determined by role and level and represent a good faith effort to provide a fair and equitable salary. This range is a reflection of base salary only, not of a total compensation package. Please note Turner & Townsend reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range, depending on candidate's experience and qualifications.
