About the Team

The Platform Engineering team at College Board is dedicated to innovating and enhancing our engineering methodologies surrounding cloud infrastructure, architecture, networking, CI/CD, IaC, and the overall developer experience.

We are responsible for designing, constructing, and managing the platforms that are essential to our development ecosystem within our expanding AWS environment.

Our team consists of around ten engineers with diverse skills and experiences, fostering a collaborative atmosphere where each member plays a vital role in the team's success.

We emphasize learning and sharing knowledge, valuing creativity and the merit of ideas.

About the Opportunity
As a Lead Cloud Solutions Engineer on our Platform Engineering team, you will be a visionary, a facilitator, and a team player.

You possess a deep understanding of cloud software delivery, tools, and processes that promote efficient and resilient delivery while adhering to exemplary development practices.

You excel in a setting that balances creativity with productivity. Your technological curiosity drives you to explore emerging technologies, trends, standards, and products. Your enthusiasm and foresight empower you to develop and understand complex solutions.

Your strong communication and mentoring abilities enable you to clearly convey solutions to the team, ensuring everyone is equipped to contribute effectively.


In this role, you will:
Design & Implementation (70%)
Develop solutions employing best practices in Agile, CI/CD, and DevOps.
Continuously enhance your skills to collaborate within an agile team in a versatile development environment.

Utilize your expertise in current technological capabilities such as cloud networking, API integrations, infrastructure resilience, and cloud architecture.

Write code to automate the infrastructure lifecycle, create and support internal tools using IaC, and proficiently use CLIs.

Collaborate to establish transformation patterns from a vertical application with service dependencies to a cloud capability.

Engage with domain experts (Delivery Team Software Engineers, Security, Infrastructure, Network, Observability, and Operations) to evaluate features and capabilities.

Work alongside technology leaders to comprehend business objectives and align architectures and cloud product offerings accordingly.

Contribute to the development and advancement of the Cloud Engineering Program through thought leadership, design, and implementation of tools and processes.

Participate in the Enterprise Architecture Review process.

Strategy & Communication (20%)
Implement cloud-first architectural solutions and best practices.

Contribute to technology strategy and planning, researching emerging technologies to support systems development efforts and recommending technologies that enhance cost-effectiveness and system flexibility.

Participate in agile scrum ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Grooming, Daily SCRUM, Demo, Retro) and contribute to team deliverables.
Engage in peer reviews of software engineering artifacts.
Assist in identifying and resolving production and production-like issues.


Team Coordination (10%)
Mentor team members by creating and developing training materials to communicate the current and future infrastructure architecture.

Lead technical initiatives and guide technical staff in the development and application of technology architectures and solutions, focusing primarily on DNS, Disaster Recovery, and Resiliency.


About You
You have:
5+ years of experience with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD frameworks, immutable infrastructure, automation, orchestration, and other modern DevOps methodologies.
Technical knowledge of Cloud Computing, DevOps, and Microservices.
Strong knowledge and experience with distributed cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred).
Experience working with AWS resources.
