Job Summary

A Staff Psychiatrist for Autism Services provides clinical oversight and expertise in the development, implementation, and evaluation of all Autism programs and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides direct patient and/or family treatment as indicated.
  • Participates in family conferences of referred patients as clinically indicated.
  • Provides on-call services in collaboration with department providers.
  • Coordinates team meetings for care of patients in the program.
  • Provides clinically pertinent education to appropriate staff, graduate students, residents, and/or fellows.
  • Continually identifies and pursues opportunities for process improvement in patient care that supports HFSC's culture of high reliability in conjunction with Chief of Psychiatry.
  • Interacts with medical staff physicians both informally and as a member of the Medical Staff Committee, attending 75% of the meetings annually.
  • Promotes and advocates effectively for autism services in the community.
  • Provides community and stakeholder education as necessary.
Requirements
  • Board certified by the ABPN in Psychology.
  • Licensed by the State of Connecticut.
  • Current Affiliate Member of Hospital for Special Care Medical Staff.
  • Competence in managing necessary services for all the psychiatric/psychological needs of autism patients.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 or more years' experience managing autism services.
Work Environment

This position requires working in the hospital, particularly on the patient units the majority of the time. This means occasional exposure to wet, humid, or dry conditions, as well as noise, odors, hazards, and blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands

The position of Staff Psychiatrist requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, observing and listening to patients and staff, with periods of walking and standing. It is occasionally required to be able to lift and/or push/pull up to 20 pounds.

Cognitive Demands

This position requires independent problem identification, abstract reasoning, and adaptability to foreign environments and information, as well as quick decision-making.

On-Call Requirement

This position has an on-call requirement and will be part of the coverage schedules for patient care needs for at least one week per month for the whole department.
