Job Overview

The Refrigeration Technician III is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all refrigeration and support systems. This includes ensuring the reliability and longevity of equipment, meeting with maintenance shift supervisors and/or manager, and providing training and guidance to other maintenance staff.

Responsibilities

• Assure all Process Safety Management (PSM) documents are completed in a timely manner to comply with local regulations.
• Review downtime and follow up as necessary to ensure proper start-up.
• Follow up on prior days' downtime and equipment problems.
• Assure all parts are ordered and approved.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks such as compressor inspections, oil changes, filter replacements, and system cleaning.
• Meet with maintenance shift supervisors and/or manager to discuss system performance and maintenance needs.
• Responsible for the fire sprinkler system for all areas.
• Provide training and guidance to other maintenance staff on safe handling practices, maintenance procedures, and emergency response protocols related to ammonia refrigeration systems.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment history, parts inventory, and compliance documentation.
• Update daily compressor room logbooks.
• Daily water chemistry for Boilers, RO, and Towers, log and correct any issues.
• Daily start-up of Freeze tunnels and compressor room.
• Responsible for maintaining all refrigeration equipment, freeze tunnels, water wells, water storage and filtering, boilers/steam piping, and wastewater treatment plant.
• Responsible for keeping the engine room, boiler area, cooling tower area, and wastewater area clean and organized.
• Assist Engineering as needed with Refrigeration System upgrades and new installations.
• Follow all food safety (GMP) and general safety guidelines.
• Follow all lock-out/tag-out procedures for all equipment.
• Complete other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge and design of refrigeration systems, ammonia systems, hydraulics, boilers, and all freezing equipment.
• Extensive knowledge of production operations and plant operations and equipment.
• Knowledge of welding.
• Five years of experience in an industrial refrigeration work environment.
• Read, write, and understand English at a technical level.
• Read and understand schematics and technical material.
• Advanced math.
• Electrical/electronic/PLC trouble shooting and repair ability.
• Proven experience working with ammonia-based refrigeration systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair.
• Member of local R.E.T.A chapter and completed CRST (Certified Refrigeration Service Technician) certification.

Physical Requirements

• Respiratory and Pulmonary fit testing (full face respirator).
• Lift up to 50 pounds.
• Frequently work in an extremely cold environment.
