Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Music Therapist to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a Music Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing music therapy services to adults with serious mental illness, addiction issues, physical and intellectual deficits, and who have experienced trauma.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, plan, organize, and implement music therapy treatment groups and individual sessions
  • Represent the Rehabilitation Department as a member of a Treatment Team
  • Complete treatment plans and conduct assessments
  • Document client attendance and progress according to hospital and departmental policy
  • Provide cross-coverage as needed to all service areas
Requirements
  • Music Therapy Degree (grad/undergrad) from an accredited school
  • Board certified or eligible to sit for certification
  • Valid Virginia driver's license
  • Ability to develop, plan, organize, and implement music therapy interventions
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication skills
  • Awareness of safety/security procedures
  • Ability to manage aggressive/assaultive clients
  • Knowledge of the purpose for active treatment
  • Ability to drive/operate and escort clients
Preferred Qualifications
  • Work/internship experience working with adults with mental illness, intellectual deficits, and physical disabilities
  • Experienced in evaluating, establishing treatment intervention, and assessing effectiveness of treatment interventions
