Custodian
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in designated areas, performing tasks such as mopping, dusting, and waste disposal. Additional responsibilities may include window cleaning, event setup, pool maintenance, snow removal, landscaping, and other related duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Thoroughly cleans restrooms, offices, locker rooms, corridors, and other assigned spaces through vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing.
- Conducts minor repairs and maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Assists various departments with setup for meetings and special occasions.
- Available for work during shutdown periods if required.
- Empties and sanitizes waste containers.
- Rearranges and dusts furniture and fixtures as needed.
- Reports any damages or necessary repairs to the supervisor.
- Utilizes cleaning supplies effectively and responsibly.
- Participates in all scheduled staff meetings and training sessions.
- Completes additional tasks as directed by the supervisor.
- Contributes as a vital member of the overall staff team.
- Responds appropriately to emergencies based on training and circumstances.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization in all cleaning closets during shifts.
- Engages with staff, members, and the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Assists with special projects at the branch or other facilities as needed.
- Participates in Association initiatives and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
- Attends all mandatory training sessions.
- Ensures the facility is appealing and clean by fulfilling all duties outlined in the daily schedule and maintaining the upkeep of assigned areas and equipment. Responsibilities may include wet and dry mopping, dusting, waste removal, recycling, window cleaning, pool maintenance, painting, vacuuming, seasonal lawn care, snow removal, and general cleaning.
- Operates both motorized and non-motorized cleaning equipment.
- Ensures the security of YMCA buildings and property during shifts and reports any incidents or hazardous conditions to the supervisor.
- Restocks soap, paper towels, and other necessary supplies.
- May assist in arranging furniture for events.
Job Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma and a valid driver's license are required.
- Preferred six months or more of relevant experience.
- Ability to read and understand instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
- Familiarity with cleaning methods and equipment.
- Basic knowledge of equipment maintenance and care.
- Understanding of cleaning agents and chemicals, including their safe and effective use.
