Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Dental Director to join our team at the State of Tennessee. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing professional dental and managerial work of average difficulty in mental health institutions, correctional institutions, public health clinics, educational institutions, and related settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess information from medical history, patient and/or parent or legal guardian and medical consults, concerning information as it relates to patient treatment.
  • Obtain information from internal or external stakeholders/partners to develop, implement, and prioritize programs based on the information received.
  • Use professional judgment to determine the most appropriate and effective treatment plan for each patient.
  • Examine teeth, gums, and related tissues, using dental instruments, x-rays, or other diagnostic equipment, to evaluate dental health, diagnose diseases or abnormalities, and plan appropriate treatments.
  • Provide general dental services to patients to prevent or eliminate dental disease.
  • Plan and coordinate public health dental programs and provide innovative leadership to improve oral health by utilizing scientifically proven methods to prevent dental disease.
  • Respond to complaints, disputes, and grievances and conflicts from internal and/or external sources to maintain a positive environment.
  • Recruit, interview, select, hire, and promote employees in an organization.
  • Assign, train, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff and their work.
  • Accurately code procedures for services performed to meet fiscal guidelines.
  • Conduct appropriate monitoring of clinical service delivery in compliance with local, regional, and state guidelines.
  • Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Identify the educational needs of others, develop formal educational or training programs or classes, and teach or instruct others.
  • Identify the developmental needs of others and coach, mentor, or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
  • Communicate with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources.
  • Ensure all records, reports, and correspondence are completed and processed within the required timeframe.
  • Conduct or attend regularly held meetings to discuss work status, to plan for future work, to solve problems in daily work, and to inform the manager and staff of any organizational changes.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an approved school of dentistry.
  • Valid/current license to practice dentistry in the State of Tennessee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in dental management and leadership.
  • Knowledge of dental laws and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and external stakeholders.

Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively in a team environment and to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and external stakeholders.
