The St. Louis Jewish Community Center (the J) has been a cornerstone of health and cultural engagement for over 140 years. Our members and participants benefit from exceptional facilities and a variety of programs, including arts and sports. The J is seeking dedicated instructors to lead evening group fitness classes such as High Intensity Interval Training, Strength and Conditioning, Tabata, Cardio Kickboxing, and TRX. This is a part-time role at our Chesterfield Gym and Fitness Center, which includes eligibility for a fitness membership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver outstanding and professional service to our members while ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Design and implement safe, engaging, and effective group fitness programs that align with the J's standards and recognized national fitness certifications. Adapt programs as necessary to accommodate the needs and safety of participants.
- Correct improper techniques when observed or requested.
- Promote group fitness, personal training, aquatic programs, and other relevant offerings to meet the needs of our members. Clearly communicate the benefits of group fitness and highlight current promotions and programs available at the J.
- Arrive on time and be prepared to commence classes promptly.
- Act as a role model and leader, maintaining a positive attitude and adhering to the policies of the J.
- Assist in keeping the group exercise studio organized and clean. Ensure all equipment is returned to its designated location after use; turn off audio equipment and secure all areas when classes are not in session.
- Inform Group Exercise Managers of any equipment that requires repair or replacement.
- Acquire knowledge of J policies, procedures, programs, and equipment. Follow and enforce all rules and regulations.
- Accurately record work hours in the designated system.
- Participate in all mandatory meetings and training sessions.
- Continue to enhance knowledge in health and fitness, including training provided by the J.
- Assist with Fitness Center promotions as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED is required.
- Current nationally recognized certification in the fitness format you wish to teach is required.
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification for the Professional Rescuer. Training will be provided if necessary.
- Preferred: Six months of prior teaching experience.
- Must be physically capable of leading classes and demonstrating techniques.
- Strong listening and verbal communication skills.
- Exhibit leadership qualities in a professional and engaging manner.
- Demonstrated commitment to improving the health and fitness of our members through effective exercise leadership.
- Ability to build networks and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Clear and concise communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of individuals.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and the ability to learn new software programs are required. Training on membership management software will be provided.
