Cytology Specialist

A cytotechnologist at Kaiser Permanente works under the direction of the Anatomic Pathology Director, Assistant Director, and/or Cytology Operation Manager. The successful candidate will perform all tests and procedures pertaining to cytology, including microscopic and non-microscopic methodologies, and tests that utilize molecular or genetic methodologies, on cytologic specimens related to infectious disease or cancer diagnosis. The cytotechnologist will conduct quality assurance tests to produce studies of the highest quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare microscopic slides from various body specimens, including Fine Needle Aspirations (FNA).
- Prepare and stain slides to preserve specimens and enhance cell visibility under the microscope.
- Examine slides under the microscope to identify infections, abnormalities, and cell morphology.
- Report normal PAP test evaluations as final diagnoses.
- Report preliminary abnormal PAP test evaluations to pathologists.
- Report preliminary findings for all NON-GYN and FNA cytology results to pathologists.
- Perform and evaluate immunohistochemistry, special stains, and molecular stains.
- Perform and evaluate digital pathology imaging analysis.
- Conduct non-microscopic methodologies, including molecular HPV and molecular infectious disease tests.
- Consistently support compliance and the Principles of Responsibility by maintaining confidentiality, protecting assets, acting with ethics, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable laws and regulations.
- Cytotechnologist License (California)
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and make accurate reports to pathologists.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience screening both GYN and NON-GYN cytology.
