Job Responsibilities and Qualifications

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for coordinating and delivering high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in alignment with departmental requirements and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. As an essential member of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist performs various diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures while monitoring patients receiving both invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and document patient assessments, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure. Perform diagnostic procedures to evaluate the necessity for and response to respiratory therapy.
  • Administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
  • Assist with the placement of artificial airways and initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.
  • Monitor patients for therapeutic responses and notify providers, intervening as necessary in case of unintended responses.
  • Assist in the transportation of ventilator-dependent patients.
  • Respond to emergent patient situations, ensuring airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as required.

Qualifications:

  • NBRC accredited RRT credential or CRT if grandfathered in.
  • Current Colorado Respiratory License.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications through AHA or ARC are required.
  • PALS and NRP certifications preferred.
  • Graduate of an AMA-accredited Respiratory Therapist Program.
  • Minimum of 6 months of prior experience.
