About the Role: Collierville Schools seeks an exceptional Special Education Specialist to join our team. As a certified Vision Teacher, you will provide assessment and consultation services to classroom staff while offering direct instruction to students with visual impairments.

About You: To be successful in this role, you should possess a valid Tennessee teaching credential authorizing specialized services for the visually impaired, as well as experience working with students of various grade levels and age ranges. Additionally, you should have excellent communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with parents, community members, and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to determine the degree of visual impairment among students referred for services.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with parents, guardians, and staff to ensure the best possible outcomes for visually impaired students.
  • Prepare reports required by state and/or county authorities, obtaining necessary documentation from pupils' physicians as needed.
  • Consult regularly with classroom teachers to plan individualized instructional programs for visually impaired students, providing or securing specialized equipment, materials, and resources as required.
  • Teach essential life skills, such as braille, typing, writing, daily living, and prevocational skills, developing goals and objectives for each student's unique needs.
  • Coordinate efforts with relevant resources, including ordering and distributing materials, preparing year-end progress reports, and performing other tasks assigned by the program supervisor.

Salary Information: This is an exempt position with a salary range estimated at $60,000 - $80,000 per annum, based on qualifications and experience. Please note that compensation may vary depending on the final candidate selected.
