Job Summary:

The Family Advocate will be responsible for a caseload of 34 families served by the Head Start Program in Evans Mills/North Jeff. This individual will make a minimum of three home visits every academic year to each family, providing information and referrals to families in the health and family service areas. The Family Advocate will act as an advocate for families, assist families in determining their needs, and help them identify and develop goals to meet those needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive health intakes, complete sensory screenings, and track health follow-up for assigned Head Start children
• Recruit and enroll children and families in the Head Start Program
• Facilitate monthly Parent Committee meetings
• Maintain accurate documentation of all required agency forms and computer database
• Track statistical data for reporting purposes

Requirements:

• Associate Degree in Human Services or related field required
• One year of experience in the human service field required
• Basic personal computer skills, including the ability to send and receive email messages, post information to a database or spreadsheet, and perform basic word processing and/or data entry
• Knowledge of child and family development, ability to maintain confidentiality of program and agency-related information, strong time management, planning, and organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to maintain accurate records, knowledge of community resources, ability to work with diverse groups and individuals, and the ability to work as a member of a team and to cooperate with all Head Start staff to provide quality programming for children and families
