Position Summary
This job description is established by the District Fire Chief of the Mountain View Fire Protection District to delineate the primary duties and responsibilities associated with this role. This position is subject to the minimum wage and overtime regulations as outlined in the Fair Labor Standards Act. Under specified supervision, this role coordinates administrative support functions and engages in various projects and assignments.
Key Responsibilities
- Acts as a representative of the District at various community events, educational functions, and District initiatives.
- Organizes and prepares materials, supplies, and resources for community activities and events.
- Delivers educational and outreach programs; facilitates classes, seminars, presentations, and workshops; manages setup and breakdown as required.
- Provides customer service for the Community Outreach Program, addressing public inquiries regarding fire safety, emergency preparedness, and District initiatives.
- Operates Sparky at community events, block parties, and parades.
- Assists with educational tours of fire stations and supports crews during emergency calls.
- Conducts CPR/First Aid training for District personnel, community members, and citizens.
- Participates in the District's Carseat Program.
- Exhibits behavior that exemplifies personal accountability, integrity, and professionalism.
- Safely and lawfully operates motor vehicles.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is highly desirable.
- Prior experience in fire or emergency services is preferred but not mandatory.
- Understanding of the District's mission, vision, and values.
- Familiarity with the policies, procedures, and objectives of the Mountain View Fire Protection District.
Skills Required
- Proficient in the safe and lawful operation of a motor vehicle.
Abilities Needed
- Capable of performing various administrative support tasks.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends, committing to a minimum of two events per month.
- Ability to respond with tact and courtesy in challenging situations.
- Competence in executing a variety of community education activities.
- Maintain appropriate personal conduct, attitude, and appearance.
- Wear the provided uniform that is neat, pressed, and suitable for the task.
- Effective listening and communication skills with diverse audiences.
- Complete tasks within designated time frames with minimal supervision.
- Establish and maintain productive working relationships with employees, the District Board, other agencies, vendors, the business community, the media, and the public.
- Utilize standard office equipment and job-related computer applications, including electronic mail.
Licensing and Certifications
Must possess and maintain the following:
- Valid Driver's License
- CPR certification
- BLS Instructor certification within six months of hire
- National Child Passenger Safety certification is preferred

Working Conditions and Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, reach, talk, hear, see, and demonstrate manual dexterity. The role involves lifting (30 lbs. and over) and carrying, sitting, standing, walking, pulling, pushing, crawling, bending, kneeling, and climbing to varying degrees depending on circumstances. The employee must be able to work under pressure in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
