Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver moderate to complex HP solutions for LLNL programs in designated areas, including establishing appropriate personnel dosimetry, bioassay, and whole-body counting programs, as well as evaluating the outcomes of these monitoring initiatives; assess and provide radiation safety recommendations for safety protocols and for facility, equipment, and shielding designs.
  • Proactively identify and assess HP-related hazardous conditions and practices to safeguard personnel from ionizing radiation risks through a solid understanding of engineering and scientific principles. Formulate, assess, and implement policies, procedures, codes, and standards.
  • Conduct facility inspections to pinpoint and evaluate potential HP hazards and provide guidance for hazard analysis.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities for TSS.3 Level

  • Respond to radiological emergencies and incidents on-site, investigate radiation-related incidents or accidents, and make recommendations to management to prevent recurrence; provide HP solutions during audits, inspections, and site verifications by internal and external agencies.
  • Mentor junior personnel.

  • Experience in HP or a related field with a comprehensive understanding of applicable state and federal regulations and consensus standards.
  • Experience in preparing safety plans and technical documentation (e.g., FSPs, SARs, DAPs); conducting safety audits and inspections; effectively addressing compliance issues with program customers and external regulators; and participating in emergency response and investigations of radiological incidents.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills to evaluate, interpret, negotiate, recommend, and implement solutions for moderately complex issues.
  • Effective organizational skills with attention to detail necessary to manage multiple moderately complex tasks in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and deadlines while delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Experience working independently and collaboratively with a diverse range of individuals and organizations, managing complex projects, and adhering to schedules.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary for effective collaboration in a team environment and for presenting technical information to all levels of management, including regulatory agencies and key stakeholders.
