Opto-Mechanical Engineering Position at Leidos

We are seeking a highly skilled Opto-Mechanical Engineer to join our team in San Diego, CA. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge space systems, collaborating with operators, analysts, and engineers throughout the product lifecycle.

About the Role:

  • Design, develop, analyze, document, and support testing of robust precision opto-mechanical assemblies using advanced techniques like precision mechanism, adhesive bonding, shimming, kinematics, and thermal control.
  • Analyze loads and environmental factors on optical/mechanical system performance, ensuring reliability and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project requirements, including manufacturability, cost, and schedule.
  • Perform optical/mechanical analysis of designs, including tolerance and stack-ups, to verify design capability across manufacturing tolerances and operational conditions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Optical Engineering and 8+ years of experience in opto-mechanical design and precision mechanisms.
  • Expertise in GD&T, tolerance stack up analysis, and CAD-based software like SolidWorks.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams, identifying and resolving complex technical issues, and implementing continuous improvement solutions.
  • Strong communication, project focus, and execution skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a development team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with space products design, manufacturing, or support, including product design, validation, test, troubleshooting, repair, and support.
  • Familiarity with space opto-mechanical systems and US DoD Contract Data Requirements List (CDRLs).

Compensation:

The estimated salary for this position is $101,400.00 - $183,300.00 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
