Job Overview

Position Summary

The Mold Designer collaborates with various teams and undertakes independent projects to implement innovative product designs and modifications to existing equipment, enhancing quality, cost-effectiveness, usability, and overall customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engages with team members to address engineering challenges related to current tooling.
  • Designs machinery, components, and assemblies for manufacturing processes.
  • Utilizes the company's CAD system to create and update comprehensive drawings and assemblies essential for production.
  • Proposes designs for new tools and engineering modifications on existing tools; suggests necessary equipment and material purchases.
  • Contributes to the development and revision of instructional and training materials for customer use.
  • Collaborates with engineers and designers to formulate conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for critical components.
  • Initiates the design of preliminary and production prints in accordance with customer specifications.
  • Reviews specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and shop data, consulting with the Project Manager, Engineering Manager, and/or Plant Superintendent to resolve design issues related to material properties, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing processes, and cost considerations.
  • Creates final prints that align with customer requirements.
  • Maintains engineering documentation, including daily job logs, to ensure that modifications and approved prints are accurately recorded.
  • Recommends alterations to design specifications to enhance the integrity of mold designs.
  • Designs with a focus on manufacturability.
  • Collaborates with component suppliers to optimize outcomes.
  • Provides technical product support to manufacturing, marketing, and sales teams.
  • Works alongside designers to produce the necessary drawings for prototyping and production.
  • Generates drawings using CAD and solid modeling software.
  • Assists plant personnel with design specifications, sampling, and any engineering challenges related to existing tooling.
  • Maintains close communication with customers regarding design requirements and collaborates with suppliers for material procurement.

Qualifications

  • 1 - 3 years of relevant experience in an engineering role
  • Proficient in 3D CAD and solid modeling software
  • Able to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Capable of analyzing and synthesizing complex technological and scientific concepts; possesses strong cognitive abilities and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrates strong collaboration and project management capabilities
  • Exhibits a high level of verbal and written communication skills
