Job Summary

This is a challenging opportunity for a seasoned Protection and Control Engineer to join our team at Sargent & Lundy. As a Lead Protection & Control Engineer, you will be responsible for reviewing the work of others, primarily focusing on protection and control schematics and wiring drawings for substation modifications and upgrades.

You will work closely with our team to investigate, troubleshoot, and solve complex substation protection and control issues. Your expertise in protective relaying philosophies, relay, control, and communications equipment, SCADA and telecommunication concepts, and I/O assignments and connection diagrams will be invaluable to our team.

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Protection and Control Engineer who can provide guidance as a mentor to less experienced engineers and contribute to the development of our team's knowledge and skills.

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with three days a week spent in the office and two days spent working remotely. Depending on your location, you may be eligible for a generous relocation package.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and approve protection and control schematics and wiring drawings for substation modifications and upgrades
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve complex substation protection and control issues
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers
  • Contribute to the development of our team's knowledge and skills
Requirements
  • BSEE with a power systems or controls emphasis from an ABET-accredited engineering program
  • 10 or more years of experience with a focus on protection / control / telecommunications for high voltage substations
  • Experience with design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards, such as NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI
  • Experience with various vendor protective relay equipment typically used in substation protection
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with in-line, bus, and equipment protection, breaker, transformer, and similar equipment control, RTU and SCADA systems, telemetering, and communications
  • AutoCAD or MicroStation experience
  • Construction and start-up experience
  • Testing or commissioning experience
  • PE license
