Job Summary

The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) plays a vital role in maintaining the well-being of patients and upholding the integrity of our program. As a member of the treatment team, you will be responsible for providing routine nursing assistant duties, ensuring a safe environment for patients, and promoting their participation in the program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor patient care and treatment, maintaining a safe environment and adhering to professional standards.
  • Check vital signs, chart routine information, and report any changes observed in patient condition or behavior.
  • Interact with patients to support their participation in the program, providing educational sessions or other groups as needed.
  • Assist with orientation, admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, providing clerical support as directed by nursing staff.
  • Take and record accurate vital signs, follow directions of nursing personnel and physicians, and successfully complete the medication test.
  • Observe universal precautions, including correct handling of blood-borne pathogens, storage of lab specimens, and disposal of infectious wastes.
  • Remain calm while performing job duties, assess and report patient behavioral changes, and identify a crisis.
  • Document patient treatment progress, make presentations, and facilitate educational groups as needed.
  • Work as a member of the treatment team, maintaining professional boundaries and standards, and treating patients with respect, care, and concern.
  • Recognize personal biases working within diverse populations, maintain cultural sensitivity, and comply with confidentiality requirements at all times.
  • Represent BHS well in all contacts, maintain familiarity with BHS policies and procedures, and perform job duties accordingly.
  • Carry out appropriate interventions, including responding to emergencies and performing CPR and/or first aid.
  • May order inventory, stock supplies, and assist patients with self-administration of PRN and other medications as ordered by physician.
  • Courteously answer phones, direct calls, and take messages, making phone calls for patients as approved by the nurse in charge.
  • Handle patients' personal belongings as directed, run errands within the CDRH, and respond to requests for assistance from the nurse in charge, the DON, and other authorized staff.
  • Attend meetings and participate in committees as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant required.
  • Valid California driver's license and liability insurance if driving a personal vehicle on BHS business.
  • Vision, hearing, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination must be adequate for performance of job duties.
  • Able to sit at a desk, use a keyboard, write, and physically perform other job duties.
  • Able to move about the facility to observe clients and staff.
