Key Responsibilities
  • Instrument Processing: Inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, and surgical case carts.
  • Quality Control: Examine surgical instrumentation for cleanliness, proper assembly, and function.
  • Documentation: Document contents of trays with count/supply sheets, ensuring sterilization by following established procedures.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Operate steam sterilizers, regularly checking time, pressure, and temperature to maintain levels; load/unload sterilizers and organize items for distribution.
  • Decontamination: Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment, preventing cross-contamination according to set procedures.
  • Supply Management: Receive and store supplies, check stock against requisitions, document inventory, and maintain par stock levels.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain records of equipment inventory, usage frequency, servicing schedules, and refer noncompliant equipment for repair.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform daily quality assurance checks on stock levels, sterility dates, and accuracy of procedure carts.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years as a Certified Sterile Processing Technician.
  • Certifications: Certified Sterile Processor (HSPA or CBSPD) and BLS (American Heart Association ONLY) certification required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a Level 1 trauma center.
  • Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER Certification).
  • Experience with orthopedic trays.
