Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking a highly skilled Nurse Practitioner to join our team at the Milwaukee VAMC, specializing in Cardiothoracic Surgery. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional patient care, collaborate with cardiothoracic surgeons, and participate in surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Manage patients with acute and chronic problems, providing specialty care and ordering diagnostic studies.
- Prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, and participate in surgical procedures as a surgical assistant.
- Triage consults for immediate care or elective care through the cardiothoracic surgery clinic or other surgical clinics.
- Participate in rounds with the team, conducting essential duties such as admission H&P, admission orders, daily notes, discharge planning, and discharge orders.
- Perform preoperative H&P in a timely manner and complete a patient assessment.
- Provide education to patients and their families, and assess and adjust the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) degree from an accredited program.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted APN license to practice as an NP in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Basic Certification in an area of clinical specialty from a nationally recognized certifying body.
- Experience in managing patients who need cardiothoracic surgery services on an outpatient or inpatient basis is preferred.
