POSITION OVERVIEW
The Cashier plays a crucial role in establishing a warm and inviting atmosphere by welcoming our customers and providing assistance. As the primary point of contact, it is essential to prioritize customer satisfaction while efficiently managing various tasks. Previous experience in a retail environment, particularly with Point of Sale operations, familiarity with product presentation, and an understanding of the factors that contribute to retail profitability are advantageous for this role. A successful Cashier should demonstrate a strong work ethic, exceptional attention to detail, and the capacity to thrive in a dynamic and sometimes demanding setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Effectively manage time, prioritize responsibilities, and balance cash register operations.
- Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting, assisting, and expressing gratitude to customers.
- Exhibit professional telephone etiquette when responding to calls.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the Point of Sale system, loyalty programs, and best practices in customer relations to ensure exceptional service.
- Communicate daily needs clearly and calmly with both leadership and team members.
- Ensure the cash register area and surrounding spaces are well-maintained and organized.
- Promote the mission of St. Matthew's House to customers and the broader community.
- Engage in special store events as organized by the Store Manager.
- Carry out assigned duties and additional responsibilities as directed by the Store Manager to support efficient store operations.
- Comply with all policies and procedures established by St. Matthew's House.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Background in retail and sales preferred.
Confidentiality: Must handle sensitive information with discretion.
Mental/Visual Demands: The role requires normal mental and visual capabilities to perform tasks effectively.
Working Conditions: Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are essential.
Physical Requirements: This position necessitates prolonged standing, walking, and bending. The employee must be capable of handling, feeling, and reaching with hands and arms, and frequently lifting or moving items weighing up to 25 pounds.
