Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate adoption discussions and showcase animals to potential adopters
- Deliver outstanding customer service to individuals interested in adopting
- Respond to inquiries regarding animals and the adoption procedure
- Provide nurturing care to all shelter animals
- Ensure accurate documentation and processing of adoption paperwork
- Exhibit patience and understanding when assisting guests in challenging situations
- Conduct follow-up consultations post-adoption
- Manage adoptions for animals with unique medical or behavioral requirements
- Maintain knowledge of various animal species and address common issues faced in adoptive settings
- Oversee general animal care—feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats
- Uphold cleanliness standards for animals and work areas
- Execute duties in alignment with organizational policies and relevant laws
- Adhere to safety protocols for oneself and others
- Perform additional tasks as needed
Qualifications:
Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. A minimum of one year of experience with animals (personal or professional) and one year in customer service is highly preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills: Ability to comprehend simple instructions, brief correspondence, and memos. Proficient in presenting information effectively in individual and small group settings. Capable of applying basic mathematical concepts. Must possess the ability to follow detailed instructions and apply common sense to resolve issues, as well as manage problems with limited variables in standardized scenarios. Strong animal handling skills are preferred. Proficient computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets; ability to learn internal software systems. Ability to operate animal microchip scanners, cash registers, and utilize cleaning supplies.
Physical Requirements: While performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to remain stationary, navigate the facility, and lift weights up to 20 pounds. Regular communication with others is necessary. Occasionally, the employee may need to move heavier weights.
