Job Summary:

A skilled Mechanical Designer/Engineer is needed to join a Swiss-American pharmaceutical and medical device company specializing in eye care products in the Lake Forest, CA area.

The role involves designing and developing mechanical components for the Surgical R&D team, managing project progress, ensuring quality standards, and mentoring staff while utilizing advanced CAD software and collaborating across departments in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure project progress, resolve technical issues, and escalate as needed.
  • Design, develop, and document components (plastic, die cast, sheet metal, machine) and assemblies using Creo Parametric 3D CAD software.
  • Create and manage top-down skeleton level architecture for products or sub-systems, ensuring alignment with company development processes.
  • Generate detailed fabrication drawings using GD&T and mechanical tolerance analysis.
  • Recommend fabrication and additive manufacturing processes, focusing on plastics, die casting, sheet metal, and machine component design.
  • Develop a network of external suppliers and internal resources across departments.
  • Perform fitment and Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/A) checks.
  • Ensure the quality of the team's output by maintaining and enforcing company standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for procedural improvement and lead initiatives for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Follow engineering and company procedures.
  • Mentor, develop, and train engineers and staff on Creo Parametric CAD software and design methodologies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of work experience.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software Creo Parametric modules (ISDX, Simulate, Pro-Process, Sheet Metal, etc.) and top-down design methodologies; SolidWorks experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Knowledge of materials and specifications for plastic, die casting, sheet metal, and machine parts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced R&D environment, preferably in the medical device sector.
  • Familiarity with DRM and ANSI Y14.5 drawing standards for machine, plastic, sheet metal, and die cast components, as well as top-level and module assemblies (experience with cables and PCBA drawings is a plus).
