POSITION OVERVIEW AND REQUIREMENTS

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Jail Division is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Senior Facilities Maintenance Technician to oversee a range of specialized and general maintenance tasks related to the upkeep of jail facilities and associated systems. In this senior role, you will supervise a small team of regular and temporary staff, as well as individuals in custody, ensuring effective planning, scheduling, and coordination of maintenance and repair activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Ideal candidates will demonstrate proficiency in various skilled trades, including but not limited to security systems, plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, HVAC, painting, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least four (4) years of relevant experience in building maintenance.
  • Proven experience in leading and training teams, providing guidance, and delegating tasks.
  • Possession of a Limited Building Maintenance Electrician (LBME) license or equivalent, or the ability to work under a Supervising Electrician while pursuing licensure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster cooperative relationships with County personnel, contractors, vendors, and the public.
  • Availability for after-hours emergency response as needed.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment drug screening.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, including national fingerprint checks.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer physical assessment, with accommodation requests reviewed on an individual basis.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required for County business.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate Degree in HVAC Maintenance and Repair or a Building Systems Technology Certificate.
  • Completion of the State of Oregon DEQ/OSHA approved Class III Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) Worker course.
  • Certification as an Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) Building Inspector.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification is required within six (6) months of hire.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Executing skilled carpentry, plumbing, limited electrical, mechanical, or HVAC tasks; diagnosing system issues; planning and obtaining necessary permits for repairs; estimating costs and sourcing materials.
  2. Conducting semi-skilled carpentry, plumbing, and painting tasks; fabricating and installing fixtures and hardware; performing repairs as needed.
  3. Supervising the work of lower-level maintenance staff, including training in safe tool operation and monitoring performance.
  4. Overseeing janitorial and landscaping contractors, ensuring quality of work performed.
  5. Conducting inspections of facilities and systems to identify maintenance needs; documenting conditions and required work.
  6. Responding to maintenance requests and acting as a liaison with contractors and suppliers.
  7. Managing capital improvement projects, including preparing estimates and specifications.
  8. Maintaining inventory levels and procuring necessary materials for maintenance tasks.
  9. Coordinating support services for events and meetings within the facility.
  10. Assisting in budget preparation and monitoring expenditures.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Comprehensive understanding of skilled trade principles and practices, as well as relevant laws and regulations. Familiarity with maintenance methods for commercial structures, HVAC systems, and safety practices is essential.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This role involves physical activity, including walking, climbing, and lifting. Exposure to various environmental conditions is expected, and the position requires interaction with individuals in custody.

SCHEDULE:

This position operates on a standard 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday, with specific hours to be discussed upon hiring.

This role is designated as on-site, requiring the selected candidate to perform duties at the designated work location.
