**Position Overview**

**Extrusion Line Technician - 2nd Shift**

Judd Wire Inc., a member of the Sumitomo Electric Group, is seeking skilled individuals for the role of Extrusion Line Technician during the 2nd shift at our manufacturing facility. The technician will be responsible for the setup and operation of tubing, semi-pressure, and pressure processes on extrusion lines, which include multi-head/tandem and multi-extrusion systems. The role involves working with various printers to jacket a diverse range of heavy and large wire, cable, and braided products using extruded compounds of different colors in accordance with established specifications and procedures. The technician will operate two extruders either independently or concurrently based on production demands. Comprehensive job training is provided from day one and continues throughout your career at Judd Wire.

**Compensation**: Minimum Hourly Rate: $23.79/hour, with an additional $2.00/hour shift differential for 2nd shift.

**Key Responsibilities**:
  • Review shop orders and requisitions; manage the movement of heavy wire reels to the take-off apparatus; accurately mix various components and chemicals to ensure stability regarding footage, lengths, wall thickness, and proper die and leader sizes. Utilize the MIS system effectively.
  • Plan production schedules, selecting shop orders to optimize runs for efficiency and meet time constraints.
  • Ensure precise setups by placing and adjusting dies and leaders in the extruder; maintain proper temperatures, speeds, and feeds while ensuring thorough cleaning of heads, screws, and barrels.
  • Operate various marking and printing machines to apply identification numbers, stripes, or legends to extruded products. Manage multiple pay-off and take-up systems as per shop specifications.
  • Conduct visual and tactile inspections of work, taking samples as required by specifications. Operate testing equipment and perform necessary tests, including concentricity, OD/ID, elongation, and adherence.
  • Continuously monitor operations, making adjustments to water troughs, speeds, feeds, and other variables to meet quality and quantity standards.
  • Identify and report defective materials, improper compounding, malfunctioning equipment, and unusual conditions to supervision. Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and organized manner.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work scheduling.
**Qualifications/Requirements**:
  • High School diploma or GED with basic math skills.
  • Team-oriented with a keen attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive manufacturing experience related to extrusion is preferred.
  • Ability to make informed decisions regarding setups and operations of multi-head/multi-line extruders to ensure product quality and adherence to schedules.
  • Position requires moderate to heavy physical effort, including frequent lifting of weights over 50 lbs and moving large reels.
  • Long periods of standing are required.
  • Continuous mental and visual attention to detail is necessary, along with manual coordination for diverse tasks.
  • Working conditions may involve exposure to noise, fumes, dust, and varying temperatures.
